What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

Have you ever felt like your business was finally gaining speed—you had the whole route mapped out, the plan was solid, and you were in motion—and then life threw you a massive pothole? Suddenly you’re wobbling, wondering if you’re about to crash, questioning everything.

Yeah, same. It happens. It’s all part of the ride.

In this post, I want to talk about how to keep moving forward—mentally, financially, spiritually—especially when your business journey feels shaky and uncertain. We'll explore burnout, mindset shifts, staying grounded, and what to do when you’re wondering if it’s even worth continuing.

The Emotional Rollercoaster of Entrepreneurship

Running a business is a wild ride. Some days, you're on a high, soaking in the views, full of clarity and momentum. Other days? It’s like you’ve been flung into a dark, emotional pit. You’re not alone if you’ve had moments of “Why the fuck am I even doing this?”

One of my clients recently shared how overwhelmed she was—juggling a successful startup, a full-time job, a family, and collaborative pitches that weren’t getting traction. She was ready to give up. Sound familiar?

What helped her (and helps me too) is remembering this: Success isn't about perfection—it’s about persistence. The people we admire most in business? They’ve all failed, multiple times. They’ve just learned to pivot, not quit.

Pivot, Don’t Quit

Failure often feels like the end. But what if it’s just a pivot point?

Didn’t land the pitch? Maybe that opened a better door. Collaboration didn’t pan out? Maybe it helped clarify your messaging for the next opportunity.

I’ve had to ask myself: Am I knocking on the wrong door? What if the door next to it is the breakthrough I need? Often, it’s not about giving up—it’s about shifting one degree. That tiny pivot can change your whole trajectory.

The Business “Death Wobble”

There’s a term in motorcycle riding called the death wobble. At high speeds, if something’s off, your handlebars start shaking uncontrollably. It’s terrifying, and instinctively you want to fight it. But the only real solution? Slow the fuck down.

That applies to business too. When things start to shake—when you feel out of control—the best thing you can do is pause. Slow down. Reconnect with your purpose. Return to the practices that ground you.

For me, that’s my spiritual practice. I pull a card from my Rider-Waite-Coleman tarot deck, and that single card can reconnect me to my intuition and provide a new lens on what I’m navigating.

Lean on Your Ride or Dies

Don’t try to ride through the storm alone. I have business besties and ride-or-die friends who get it. They know what it’s like. When I’m at my lowest, I reach out—not always easily—but it’s worth it.

Their support is grounding. Their voices remind me of who I am and where I’m going. If you haven’t found your crew yet, that’s okay—but know that support is a game-changer.

Time for a Full Wheel Alignment

Sometimes life pulls you so far off track you don’t even recognize your path anymore. When that happens, it’s time for a full wheel alignment.

Take inventory:

  • Where are you going?

  • Are you being the person you want to be?

  • Is your business actually aligned with your goals?

  • Are you taking care of yourself?

Maybe you're in fifth gear when you need to be in third. Maybe you need more pit stops. But getting aligned is the key to moving faster, further—with less burnout.

Apply the Rear Brake: Ground, Then Throttle

In motorcycle training, there’s a trick called dragging the brake. If your bike is jerking at low speed, just applying the rear brake gently helps stabilize the engine. Once you’re grounded, then you can roll the throttle and keep moving.

This applies to business too.

If you’re about to stall, ground yourself first. Stabilize. Then roll on the throttle and pick up momentum again.
